I got this recipe through my neighbour. It tastes execllent and very special. For sure, everyone will ask for "once more". Its my family's favorite and you to make your family and friends to enjoy this rasam.
Ingredients:
1. Green apple / Red apple - 1 medium size
2. Toor dhal - 4 tbs
3. Tamarind juice - 1/4 cup
4. Turmeric powder - 1 tsp
5. Rasam powder - according to your taste
6. Salt - according to your taste
7. Hing - 1 tsp
Seasoning:
1. Coriander leaves - 2 -3 stems
2. curry leaves - 1 full stem
3. Mustard seeds - 1 1/2 tsp
4. Jeera - 1 1/2 tsp
Method:
1. Peel off the apple skin and chop into pieces. Take a bowl, add toor dhal and apple and required amount of water to get cooked. Pressure cook in your usual timings which you use to cook dhal or give 4 whishtles.
2. After the pressure is completely gone, remove the bowl from the cooker. Smash the cooked dhal and apple togther.
3. Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds, jeera. Add tamarind water and the regular water to the pan. Add turmeric powder, salt, rasam powder and the apple dhal mixture to the vessel. Allow to boil for 4-5 minutes.
4. Add washed and cleaned coriander, curry leaves stems to the rasam. Add hing to the boiling rasam. Transfer it to the serving bowl. The consistency of this rasam should be little bit thicker than the regular rasam.
5. Serve hot with white rice and ghee.
note : If you want you can even fry some apple pieces and add it to the rasam as a final touch.
No need to add garlic to this rasam, as the apple flavour should dominate this rasam.
