I got this tasty and protein rich recipe from my aunt when i went to their house for a vacation. She served a yellow spongy idly with fried mor-milagai (green chilles soked in curd and dried under sun for a week and fried in oil when ever required). The side dish and the ingredients for this idly was new to me, and the texture of the idly was like our regular urud dhal idly. Don't missed to try to this recipe !!!
Ingredients:
1. Thoor dhal - 1 cup
2. Boiled rice - 1 cup
3. Salt - 1 tbs
4. Red chillies - 2 or 3
Method:
1. Wash thoor dhal in the running water and soak it with warm water in a bigger vessel.Wash boiled rice in the running water and soak it in water in a seperate bowl. Soak both rice and dhal for a minimun for 3 - 6 hours
2. After soaking, grind dhal and rice seperately. Grinding rice finely and the thoor dhal little corsely.
3. Blend both rice and dhal with salt and allow to ferment over night or 6-8 hrs.
4. Pour it in the idly plate applying oil in the plate before pouring the batter. The cooking time depends upon each cooker. appox 10-12 minutes for cooking.
5. Serve it with onion or tomato chutney, but the best side dish will be the fried chilles.
